On 1 June 2017, President Trump withdrew the USA from the Paris Climate Agreement. It is now one of only three countries not to be committed to this landmark global agreement for sustainable change. Our CEO Sue Riddlestone responds to this shortsighted decision

“President Trump’s decision is very disappointing. He is on the wrong side of the argument and he is endangering the future prosperity and security of all Americans and all humans everywhere. Virtually every other government in the world recognises how serious a threat climate change is.

“Mr Trump makes much of being a businessman, but in pulling the USA out of the Paris Climate Agreement he shows a worrying lack of insight into all the opportunities a clean energy future brings. Thank goodness for all the leading US-based businesses, cities and states, who can see those opportunities, and who will no doubt continue undeterred.

“We are also undeterred in continuing to champion a better, more sustainable future for all, and to press for the rhetoric on cutting emissions to be turned into action. We will just need to wait a few years for the whole of the USA to rejoin the global movement for positive climate action – which it will.

“The Paris agreement is far too important for even the president of the world’s most powerful nation to overturn. The momentum for creating a brighter, more sustainable future is building, and will soon be unstoppable.”
