We use a range of tools and methodologies to model and appraise various development options and to illustrate environmental impacts and benefits. This can allow us to identify new products and services that businesses could offer, as well as how more sustainable communities can be provided for. We have used this technique when:
- Assessing the sustainability of competition appraisals;
- Using Ecological Footprinting to assess the impact of different future scenarios;
- Financial and product appraisal.
Recent projects include:
- We have assessed the sustainability of proposals of several developments for Brighton and Hove (Circus Street, Preston Barracks and Black Rock);
- Various sustainability appraisals and Ecological Footprint analyses for Places for People;
- Appraisal of product range – identifying areas of growth for sustainable products for B&Q;
- Financial appraisal of carbon neutral developments for EEDA (more info).

We work with clients and partners to develop project-specific sustainable
solutions. We use the holistic One Planet Living framework to develop
Sustainability Action Plans that cover issues including energy, transport,
food, water and waste management. The Plans set out targets, delivery
mechanisms and monitoring strategies to help realise the shared vision.
We have used these to help devise strategies to improve the environmental
performances of:
- Individual homes
- Businesses and products
- Housing developments, in the UK, Europe and internationally
- UK counties and regions
