Record breaking arctic explorer visits BedZED
eco-estate to highlight need for One Planet Living
Record breaking adventurer Adrian Hayes, who
is set to embark on the longest unsupported arctic journey in history,
visited the BedZED eco-estate this week.
Hayes will be using the expedition to highlight
the urgent need for One Planet Living®.
He said: “From previous expeditions to the arctic, I have
seen how our lifestyles are causing climate change – the effects
are magnified there – I have seen the dramatic loss in thickness
of the Arctic ice sheet with my own eyes. You may not see such dramatic
changes in your own back garden but climate change affects us all
whether it’s flooding or droughts. We need to think globally
and act locally to stop the situation from worsening – BedZED
is great example of this sustainable way of thinking”

BioRegional and partners
publish new research into the availability of wood for heating and
power in London
Hot off the press this week, we have produced guidance
on using wood residues and wood from arboricultural activities for
heat and power in London. The report Biomass for London: wood fuel
demand and supply chains was published by London Energy Partnership
and jointly written by BioRegional, SE Wood Fuels and Creative Environmental
Networks. It is particularly useful for those involved in biomass
policy and the supply and demand of wood fuel.

New solution
found for re-using construction waste
ReIY Centres
will reduce waste and landfill costs and create jobs.
A new initiative from sustainability
expert BioRegional is set to help the construction industry reduce
the cost of dealing with waste by reusing waste building materials.
WRAP has funded BioRegional to set up ReIY Centres that will collect
unwanted building materials from construction sites and sell them
on to the general public and small scale trade market. The first
ReIY Centres are planned for The Wirral, Waltham Forest and Tees
Valley.

Could new green
framework be blueprint for better living?
At an event in London yesterday, a group of forward
thinking businesses and local government members came together to
promote projects that use a new sustainability framework –
a framework that could be used around the world for positive change.
BioRegional ran the One Planet One Day convergence.
The day brought together BioRegional’s international partners
to share their experience of applying the One Planet Living framework
to deliver projects that show true, measured sustainability in action.
