Planet Products launched its 6 month fee-free trial at its first
membership meeting this January. The membership-only bulk buying
initiative is working with partners in the construction and refurbishment
industries to make it easier and more cost effective for those engaged
in residential and refurbishment work in the UK, to specify and
use high quality, sustainable building products and materials.

of One Planet Products explains that
“members of One Planet Products will be able to purchase
sustainable and environmental products and materials through the
website, and can take advantage of price discounts and rebates which
we have negotiated with suppliers on our members’ behalf.
One Planet Products will help members to reduce the environmental
impact of the new and existing UK housing stock and meet sustainability
targets such as EcoHomes and the new Code for Sustainable Homes”.
One Planet Products identifies
resource-saving products and materials for use in the construction
and refurbishment industries, and negotiates with suppliers discounts
and rebates based on the combined purchasing power of the members.
All products submitted to One
Planet Products undergo a product review, and this enables members
to select proven sustainable products quickly, without the need
for carrying out expensive and time-consuming research themselves.Members
also have access to a membership forum where they are able to share
information amongst themselves and feedback to product suppliers.
One Planet Products provides members
with a guide to the available EcoHomes credits associated with each
product listed, and gives information regarding the amount of water,
energy, carbon dioxide and money that can be saved through purchasing
and installing listed products and materials.
By making such products more affordable
and publicising the long term savings that can be made by investing
in their installation, One Planet Products encourages sustainable
living whilst enabling members to improve quality of life for tenants
and home owners.
The fee-free trial will enable
interested businesses to trial the club and influence how One Planet
Products is developed during its early stages. During the trial
members will be able to attend membership and supplier meetings
which will cover a broad range of relevant industry issues as well
as comment and discuss the product list, pricing, membership fees
and ease of using the website. The trial will run until the end
of July 2007.
