Case study
London 2012 Media Centre carbon footprint
Client: Carillion
Carillion is the principal contractor for the Media Centre on the Olympics site in east London. BioRegional has been working with Carillion on-site to deliver sustainability integration since 2009. In 2011 we undertook a study to review the carbon footprint associated with the building of the Media Centre.
The study includes an assessment of the carbon embodied in the materials used, energy used on-site during construction, emissions from transporting materials, staff travel, temporary buildings and catering. Carillion will use the information to compare the project’s performance against future projects and to ensure that low carbon construction is embedded in the organisation.
The client report also covers the methodology that we used to calculate the carbon footprint, and highlights ways that this could be made easier in future. We also gave recommendations to Carillion to help make carbon footprinting simpler and more cost effective in the future.
