Monitoring and reporting on sustainability commitments
Overview
Monitoring and reporting on progress towards your sustainability objectives is an essential part of successfully delivering your sustainability action plan. It provides you with critical feedback and helps to inform your future activities.
BioRegional can provide you with a monitoring system that covers all the activities and targets within your action plan. The monitoring system will help you to meet your targets, and provide you with valuable data, such as associated carbon and ecological footprints.
For endorsed One Planet Partners, we undertake an annual review to check on implementation of the agreed One Planet Action Plan. We highlight areas where the organisation can push the boundaries of sustainability further, and look at the lessons for future projects.

One Planet Home monitoring tool
Client: B&Q
BioRegional has worked with design agency MLa to create an online One Planet Home monitoring tool for B&Q. For each of the ten principles we have identified appropriate KPIs to be reported against on an annual basis. The information is captured and used to inform both Kingfisher’s annual Corporate Responsibility report and the BioRegional Annual Review.
BioRegional has now written three public-facing annual reviews of B&Q’s progress against their One Planet Home action plan. The review is based on the information collected through the One Planet Home monitoring tool complimented by dialogue with the lead manager for each of the 10 principles. Our review includes a calculation of B&Q’s carbon footprint covering Scope 1 and 2 carbon emissions along with waste to landfill and other business travel.

Monitoring of eco product sales data
Client: Kingfisher
As an international home improvement retailer (with over 840 stores in eight countries), Kingfisher is in a unique position to provide affordable sustainable home improvement products to consumers. A key focus of the Group’s sustainability strategy is to lead on eco products and services and Kingfisher’s eco products sales have already reached over £1 bn annually (10% of total sales). From the outset, a key challenge has been to ensure any ‘eco’ claims on products are credible – so that consumers can have confidence that any eco product they buy really does what it says on the tin.
In addition to BioRegional’s work to develop eco-product guidance for Kingfisher Group, BioRegional now undertake quarterly monitoring of eco product sales data to check compliance with our eco product criteria. This has been a significant undertaking – with over 20,000 individual products reviewed by BioRegional during 2010 from across our nine international businesses.
