Organisations and supply chain - full Scope 3

Overview

To help you fully understand your carbon emissions and develop strategies to effectively reduce them, BioRegional has the expertise to carry out a full supply chain assessment (Scope 3). This assessment goes beyond a typical carbon footprint which would only examine the emissions associated with your buildings and transport (Scope 1 and 2). Our Scope 3 assessment covers both direct and embodied emissions associated with the goods and services your organisation uses, such as raw materials, packaging, catering, marketing and IT services.

BioRegional has undertaken full Scope 3 carbon footprinting for a wide range of clients, including retailers, local authorities and facilities management companies.

Full Scope 1, 2 and 3 carbon footprint analysis

Client: B&Q

B&Q, the UK’s largest home improvement and garden retailer, has been part of the One Planet Companies programme since 2007. As part of the environmental partnership with B&Q, BioRegional has completed the first full Scope 1, 2 and 3 carbon footprint analysis of B&Q using TBL2software. We calculated the total carbon footprint to be 3.1 million tCO2-eq for 2009-2010. This piece of work has enabled B&Q to strategically review the measures that they are undertaking to reduce the impact of their range of products. It provides a good starting point for further work engaging with suppliers and improving their understanding of the impact of goods sold.

Bottomline3 impact analysis

Client: Kingfisher

As a major worldwide supplier of home improvement products, Kingfisher’s environmental impact is spread far and wide; from the extraction of raw materials and manufacture of the products it sells, to the choices the public make as they alter their homes and gardens. BioRegional completed an analysis of the impacts of Kingfisher’s Goods For Sale using the greenhouse gas footprinting tool Bottomline3. We examined the embodied impacts of the goods purchased annually for sale by five of Kingfisher’s operating companies: B&Q, Screwfix, Castorama France, Brico Dépôt Spain and Brico Dépôt France. This information supports Kingfisher’s work programme around eco-design to help prioritise and focus work to reduce the environmental impacts of products.
