Sustainable
Living Programme
The Sustainable Living Programme
is based around the design of buildings, facilities and services
in the places where people live and work in the UK. The overall
goal of the Programme is to bring changes to the housing and construction
industry, to reduce the eco-footprint of buildings (existing and
new) and of people’s lifestyles while they occupy those buildings.
BioRegional initiated the Beddington Zero Energy Development, with
Peabody Trust and Bill Dunster Architects, an 100 eco-home and office
development which is designed to be the UK’s largest new-build
carbon-neutral development. This is now being reported and disseminated
to the construction industry through the Carbon Neutral Tool Kit.
We are monitoring the performance and quantifying the environmental
benefits of BedZED. An Exhibition Centre at BedZED disseminates
information about BedZED and eco-footprinting to industry, policy
makers and the general public.
Building on the work of BedZED we are now working
on further sustainable communties in the UK and internationally
through the One
Planet Living Programme
- a partnership with WWF to build eco-communities around the world.
