Firewood
and Kindling
Get ‘fired
up’ about British woodlands this winter
The high quality, wildlife friendly choice for your open fire or
wood-burning stove
When the weather turns wintry, a real log fire is guaranteed to
bring a warm glow into your home. BioRegional’s HomeGrown
Firewood and Kindling offers carbon-neutral, high quality wood that
won’t spit or smoke. Fire lovers can be happy in the knowledge
that these products come from sustainably managed forests, help
boost British wildlife and support the rural economy. No other fuel
does so much good!
Sarah Mooney, BioRegional’s
Firewood Manager
”The market is flooded with poor quality, unseasoned firewood
harvested from softwood trees such as pine which burn too quickly,
spit, smoke and clog up chimney flues. Our producers use the best
firewood species, such as oak and ash, which are easy to light and
burn steadily. We naturally dry our hardwood logs to give our customers
the best possible ‘seasoned’ products for their fire."
BioRegional HomeGrown wood products
are great for wildlife fans as they come from traditional UK woodlands
whose environmentally friendly management by selective thinning
and coppicing helps woodland flowers, butterflies and birds such
as the threatened linnet and yellowhammer. The Forest Stewardship
Council (FSC) monitors our management ensuring that we reach the
highest international environmental standard for responsible, legal
and sustainable forestry.
Rural employment is also
given a boost through BioRegional’s HomeGrown Firewood and
Kindling. BioRegional’s network of 25 woodland producers act
together as one supplier, making them an attractive proposition
to national retailers such as B&Q who find it easier to deal
with larger, multi-product companies. BioRegional’s producers
are also able to direct to their most local B&Q stores, reducing
transport distances and CO2 emissions.
BioRegional HomeGrown Firewood and Kindling is now stocked in all
mainland UK and Northern Ireland B&Q stores priced £3.25
and £1.50 respectively. To find the location of your nearest
B&Q and to find out about the B&Q range of fire-related
products, visit www.diy.com
or call B&Q on 0845 609 6688.
Consumers in designated Smoke Control Areas (SCAs) can find appropriate
appliances which are exempt when using seasoned firewood by visiting

The transportation of BioRegional HomeGrown Firewood and Kindling
is covered by the Climate Care scheme. BioRegional pays a small
premium on the fuel that it uses for transportation to repair the
damage that is done from using fossil fuel energy. The scheme invests
this premium into developing energy efficient technologies, renewable
energy and forest restoration projects. The projects save at least
as much CO2 as was initially emitted. http://www.climatecare.org
BioRegional is working to expand its UK charcoal and firewood production
through regional-scale
charcoal kilns,
which would allow more UK forests to be sustainably managed for
rural incomes and wildlife.
