Sue Riddlestone
Managing Director

Sue initiated and has led the development of the Company and its technology since 1996 bringing together and leading the team and securing funds of £2 million to date. Sue co-founded the environmental organisation, BioRegional and as co-director has built it up to an organisation with a turnover of £2 million with 40 staff and six spin out companies. Sue established the Laundry, London’s first kerbside recycling collection for small businesses and has led a marketing campaign generating annual sales of over £2 million for the local recycled paper product. More recently, Sue secured the contract for BioRegional to write the sustainability strategy for London’s 2012 Olympic bid. Sue is also a member of the London Sustainable Development Commission.

     
           
         
           
 

Stefan Kay
Chairman

Stefan Kay is a leading paper industry figure. In 1998, he was awarded the OBE for services to the paper industry. Stefan was CEO of Inveresk until his retirement in 2000 and was formerly chairman of the Environment Committee of the Confederation of the European Paper Industry. More recently Stefan has provided consultancy to the Government’s Waste Resources Action Programme and is employed by Heriot Watt University as Director of Services and project manager for a major estate investment. While CEO of Inveresk Stefan took a lead role in generating paper industry support for the development of the MiniMill technology. Stefan became a non-executive Director of BioRegional MiniMills Ltd in 2000.

       
           
         
           
 

Trevor Dean
Non Executive Director and member of Technical Advisory Board

Trevor is the inventor of the MiniMill technology and has forty years of international experience in pulping of non-woods, paper manufacturing and pollution control. Trevor has previously worked as a consultant to UNIDO and the EIB in this area. Trevor was a partner at Cross & Bevan, Ltd. from 1980-1992 and was employed by the Paper Industry Research Association. Trevor is a Member of the Royal Society of Chemistry. Trevor is a key advisor to the team.

       
           
         
           
 

Philip Hartwell
Technical Director

Philip is a senior consulting engineer to the paper industry and experienced project manager both for research projects, which he led when he worked at the Paper Industry Research Association, and for turnkey engineering projects when he was a director at paper industry engineers AF-QPS. Philip project managed the largest paper industry project in the UK in recent years, the installation of a recycling plant for SCA in Shotton, Wales in 1997.

Philip has played a key role in the development of the MiniMill technology since 1998. He project managed pulping trials and revised engineering design and costs for MiniMill in 2003. He is currently leading the installation of the industrial scale demonstration mill in Manchester.

       
           
         
           
 

James May
Engineering Assistant

Prior to working for BioRegional MiniMills, James worked for the local authority in the cleaning and pest control department. He has NVQ 1 and 2, BTEC level 1 and 2 and an ONC in Motor Vehicle and Engineering.

       
         
           
 

Helen Vincent
Assistant and Researcher to the Executive Director

Helen has an MA in Social Research Methods specialising in Anthropology from Durham University. Her MA research investigated the use of focus groups as a method for investigating issues surrounding sustainable consumption. Before coming to BioRegional, Helen volunteered with TreeAID as well as working in the Mechanical Engineering department at Bath University.
