Marrick & Co has been applauded for its commitment to ongoing implementation and continuous improvement towards One Planet Living. It joins a growing list of Australian real estate developers and communities with ambitious plans to live, work and do business within the Earth’s resources.

The Marrick & Co. One Planet Action Plan has been assessed against the ten principles of One Planet Living in the Australian One Planet Program. Its One Planet Action Plan outlines a series of strategies, actions and targets to achieve a One Planet Community in Marrickville, Sydney.

Mr. Long, General Manager of Major Projects Residential, said Marrickville was the ideal location to apply its urban life, place-making philosophy in line with the ten One Planet Principles. The new residential project by Mirvac is positioned in the heart of Marrickville, centrally located to local markets and good food, culture and community facilities, and public transport. The site combines the residential development and community hub within a public park and food gardens.

The adaptive reuse of the heritage hospital building is a defining feature incorporating the community hub and library to be operated by the Inner West Council. The community library will provide onsite community facilities for residents and the general community, including training and health activities, and a community café and children playground.

“The future of our cities is in learning how to develop communities that have high living standards and quality of life, while at the same time prospering within the resource limits of our one and only planet. Bioregional Australia Foundation is very excited by the commitment of Mirvac to this journey and welcomes Marrick & Co. to the One Planet Program. We look forward to furthering our collaboration and together inspiring other communities to join the growing worldwide movement towards One Planet Living." Russell Fisher, Chair of the Board, Bioregional Australia Foundation.

The One Planet Framework is an internationally recognised benchmark for sustainability which provides a roadmap for communities, councils and organisations to make it easy, attractive and affordable for people to lead happy and healthy lives within the Earth’s finite resources.

Linked to key metrics and indicators such as ecological footprinting and the social determinants of health, the ten One Planet Principles address everything from zero carbon energy, zero waste, through to culture and community, equity and local economy and health and happiness.
