The big challenge

Wild West End is a partnership of six property owners in the heart of London, working together to help nature thrive in a busy urban environment: Grosvenor, The Portman Estate, Shaftesbury Capital, The Howard de Walden Estate, The Crown Estate, and Church Commissioners for England.

Celebrating Wild West End’s tenth year, the partners invited Bioregional to review its core purpose and action plan, helping to identify how it can maximise impact in the next decade.

The big opportunities

As major landowners and stakeholders in London’s West End, the Wild West End partners have significant leverage and influence to make positive change when it comes to urban nature.

The purpose of the project was to identify how to harness the unique strengths of each partner and bring them together to take collective action.

Our people-shaped support

We brought together detailed insights from the partners, relevant external stakeholders and desktop research to reflect on the successes, challenges and opportunities for Wild West End, past, present and future.

Through a collaborative, workshop-based process, we helped partners to distil the aims of the partnership, identify what really matters, agree how they will work together, and envision the difference they want to make. These ideas formed the foundations of a new vision and action plan for Wild West End.

The big impact

The culmination of the project was the creation of an exciting new mission and vision to reinvigorate the partnership behind a shared purpose for the coming decade.

“By 2035, the West End will be a leading example of inspiring urban nature – showing what is possible when biodiversity is woven into the fabric of the city. Through collective action we will leave a lasting legacy that builds climate resilience and enriches everyday life for residents, workers and visitors.”

This mission and vision are underpinned by a detailed action plan with workstreams, timelines and accountability to drive meaningful impact in 2026/27. Highlights include:

  • A 2026 launch event to showcase the updated vision and action plan
  • Creating a planting guide that’s specific to the West End
  • Pioneering measurement of the holistic benefits of urban greening through piloting and developing the Value Matrix tool

We look forward to supporting Wild West End in the coming year as a key delivery partner for the action plan.
