How we helped Muse create an industry-leading Sustainable Development Framework
The big challenge
Property developer Muse, part of Morgan Sindall Group Plc, wanted to update its existing Sustainable Development Framework (SDF), which sets ambitious metrics and guidance for its developments.
The aim: to ensure the SDF aligns with best practice across all aspects of sustainability, from net-zero carbon, circular economy and biodiversity to social value and health and wellbeing.
Our people-shaped support
Working alongside other subject matter experts WSP, Greengage and HATCH, we supported Syreeta Bayne, Head of Social Value and Sustainability, to create an industry-leading framework. Our experts:
- Project managed and coordinated the overall project, as well as acting as a critical friend for all SDF themes, and consolidated final outputs to ensure alignment across all sustainability themes.
- Produced the outputs for the health and wellbeing theme, drawing on our expertise in holistic, people-focused sustainability, and our recently updated One Planet Living guidance for new-build communities in the UK.
- Updated the SDF Tracker, which acts as a reporting mechanism for all KPIs. All Muse project teams will use the Tracker to report against KPIs across all themes, ensuring sustainability efforts are integrated.
The big impact
Muse now has what we consider to be the industry’s most ambitious holistic social impact and sustainability framework to date, ensuring that all its developments will meet the very highest social, nature and sustainability standards in both construction and operation.
The SDF is also aligned with the requirements of the new UK Net Zero Carbon Buildings Standard, positioning Muse at the forefront of testing the standard across its upcoming portfolio.
