BioRegional build practical solutions
to enable us to live happy, healthy lives within our fair share
of the earth’s resources – we call this One Planet
Living.
The
goals of our One Planet Living Programme:
1. Build a world-wide network
of One Planet Living Communities and other exemplary projects
to demonstrate One Planet Living in action.
2. Establish One Planet Living
Centres in each One Planet Living community as a focus
for education.
3. Promote the imperative for
One Planet Living and its guiding principles to catalyse
change with governments, business and individuals.
Why
we need One Planet Living
One Planet Living is the challenge of our times. Globally,
we are consuming resources and polluting 30% more than the planet
can sustain. Our increasing consumption means we leave less and
less space for other species to flourish, and we are losing biodiversity
at an alarming rate.
Different countries are consuming
and polluting at different rates. If everyone in the world lived
as Americans do, we’d need 5 planets to support us. And if
everyone lived the way Europeans do, we’d need 3 planets.
Large segments of the populations of major countries such as India,
China and Brazil consume natural resources at similarly high rates.
BioRegional’s work has shown that One Planet Living
is possible now – for example, our research shows that some
of the residents of our BedZED
community in London are already living at the ‘one planet’
level.
BioRegional are working in regions
and communities such as: United Arab Emirates (7 planet lifestyle),
North America (5 planet lifestyle), Western Europe (3 planet lifestyle)
and China (1 planet lifestyle and rising). Working with our partners
we are creating solutions which show what truly sustainable living
looks like in practice. All our projects are based on the ten One
Planet Living Principles which we use as a holistic sustainability
framework.

One Planet
