Evermore WGV, led by developer Yolk Property Group, is an apartment block in Fremantle, Western Australia designed to make it easy, attractive and affordable for people to lead happy and healthy lives using a fair share of the earth’s resources.

Bioregional’s One Planet Living framework comprises ten simple principles - from zero carbon energy to health and happiness – that enable organisations to create joined-up solutions to achieve true sustainability. It has been used by new-build developments all over the world to build pioneering homes and communities and track their progress.

Yolk Property Group used One Planet Living throughout the planning and development of the 24 apartments at Evermore WGV and in 2017, Bioregional endorsed its sustainability action plan, known as a ‘One Planet Action Plan’.

After reviewing the first annual report of this plan, Bioregional has now recognised Evermore WGV as a Global Leader in One Planet Living due to the scale of its ambition and the achievements it has already made.

The community-focused and energy-efficient development will be net zero carbon1 from day one with solar panels and battery storage, as well as using 100% renewable energy. Its transport infrastructure is also innovative with community bikes, electric vehicle charging, car-sharing facilities and less than one car-parking space per apartment, a huge achievement in car-dependent Perth.

Evermore is situated within another One Planet Community and Global Leader in One Planet Living, WGV at White Gum Valley led by LandCorp and was inspired by its use of One Planet Living. WGV provided plots for developers and self-builders and has created a highly diverse community with a people-friendly layout and plenty of green space.

Ben Gill, One Planet Living manager says: “Evermore has truly lived up to the aspirations at WGV at White Gum Valley by creating a community-focused, low-car and zero-carbon development where people will want to live.

“We’re also impressed by Yolk Property Group’s desire to spread the message of sustainability through its desire to influence the planning system and wider industry to ensure that new communities in Perth make sustainable living easy affordable and attractive.”

Suzette Jackson, Bioregional Australia’s Executive Director, says: “Yolk Property Group’s first use of the One Planet Living framework has seen it challenge the status quo and develop leadership in this sector. I look forward to its next One Planet Living development, driving positive change and delivering improved impacts for community.”

Tao Burton, Director of Yolk Property Group, says: “One Planet Living opened my eyes to the breadth of sustainability issues and how it relates to all aspects of our daily lives - everything from health and happiness to zero carbon energy.

“What we’ve learnt at Evermore has helped put us at the forefront of sustainability and we have had numerous requests from other developers wanting to visit our sites and learn from them.”

Yolk Property Group is a private syndicated property development company with a core focus in Western Australia, Victoria, and Queensland and a focus on sustainable development.
