In 2021, Lamington Group set an industry-first target of delivering whole-life net-zero carbon across the future development and operation of its 'hometels'. Operated by room2, hometels combine the best elements from Airbnb, serviced apartments and boutique hotels in an offering designed to appeal equally to corporate and leisure guests and those seeking alternative forms of residential accommodation.
Lamington Group has also committed to achieving net zero across Scopes 1 and 2 by 2030. The targets form part of the Group’s 2030 Net Zero Carbon Roadmap, which details the actions required for the company to reach its 1.5C aligned target. To ensure it covers all aspects of sustainability in a holistic manner, it has chosen One Planet Living® as its sustainability framework, alongside the GHG Protocol and Science Based Climate Initiative.
Sustainability has been integrated into the company’s culture and values, with One Planet Living and the internal 'Team Planet' campaign driving this shift. Team Planet awards points against the 10 One Planet Living principles, financially rewarding employees for positive sustainable actions in their professional and personal lives.
The real estate sector accounts for nearly 40% of global carbon emissions, with the hotel industry contributing roughly 1%. Lamington Group's ambitious One Planet Action Plan shows the steps it is taking to lead the hotel and real estate sector's transition to net zero.

High-quality, well-lit working spaces with an abundance of plants, a target of 20% of employees to receive a promotion each year, and low VOC paints specified for all refresh projects.
Culture and community
Celebrating localism and nurturing a culture of sustainability by creating connections with local artists in each location, running regular Team Planet workshops, regular communications and financially incentivised actions, and delivering One Planet Living inductions to all its employees.
Reducing flood risk by installing blue roofs, grey water systems and adopting flooding mitigation measures in new developments. The innovative blue roof at Chiswick catches 50,000L of water to prevent local flooding.
Local and sustainable food
Proactively encourages guests and employees to choose low-carbon, healthy food, working with aligned suppliers and partners to introduce more vegan and vegetarian options and support local where possible.
Zero carbon energy
To be net zero by 2030 and create whole life net zero carbon hometels. Impressive retrofit targets for existing stock, targeting deep retrofit on eight apartments per year and retrofit of own offices and hotels in Hammersmith and Southampton by 2025.
