The challenge: assessing TB&A’s performance to create a sustainability strategy

TB&A wanted to create its first ever sustainability strategy – where should it start? It needed a plan that met its needs and supported its ambitions.

How we helped: a comprehensive review of its sustainability initiatives and activities

We started with some research, carrying out five distinct assessments to review TB+A’s current sustainability initiatives and activities:

  • a gap analysis using our One Planet Living framework, which covers social and environment impacts
  • an assessment against the UN Sustainable Development Goals
  • an initial materiality assessment
  • a peer comparison
  • a future trends analysis.

Our One Planet Living gap analysis report set out TB&A’s performance against all ten One Planet Living principles. As well as highlighting overall strengths, gaps and opportunities, we provided examples of competitors’ actions and key recommendations.

We then facilitated a one-day strategy workshop with TB&A’s senior management and technical sustainability specialists to explore risks, opportunities and vision statements for priority actions.

Drawing on the five assessments and feedback from key stakeholders, we identified sustainability themes, goals, and target options for TB+A. These formed the basis for the subsequent strategy development.

We also provided advice on setting sustainability targets including KPIs, baselines, milestones and data collection requirements.

Bioregional’s final deliverable was an action plan for TB+A to help the company implement its strategy.

The impact: a comprehensive sustainability strategy – and a plan of action

TB+A now has an internally recognised sustainability strategy that’s supported throughout the company. It has realistic, implementable targets and a clear action plan to move forward.
